How an NFC business card works
Tap your card on a phone and a link opens. No app, no typing, no pairing. Here is what happens, step by step.
The tap, in three moments
The whole thing takes about a second.
Hold the card to the phone
Bring the card within a few centimetres of the back of the phone.
The phone reads the chip
The chip stores one web address. It has no battery. The phone powers it for the moment of the tap.
Your page opens
A prompt or page appears with your profile, website or WhatsApp chat.
Tap it or scan it
Every card has both, so nobody is left out.
NFC tap
The fastest way. Hold the card to the back of the phone for about a second.
Best for: meeting someone in person.
QR scan
Works on any phone with a camera, even when it has no NFC. Point the camera at the code.
Best for: older phones, or when you cannot hand the card over.
Where to tap
The reader sits in a different spot on different phones. Check your phone's guide if you are unsure.
iPhone
On most iPhones the reader is near the top of the back, close to the camera. Newer models read the card without opening an app.
Android
The spot varies by model, often in the upper middle of the back. Check that NFC is switched on.
One card, any link
The chip stores a single web address. You choose where it goes, and you can change what sits behind it later.

If nothing happens
Almost every problem is one of these four.
Switch NFC on
On Android, check that NFC is on in the quick settings or the phone settings.
Remove thick or metal cases
Metal plates and very thick cases can block the signal.
Hold still for a second
Touch the card to the back of the phone and slide slowly if nothing happens.
Use the QR code
Every card also has a QR code. Open the camera and point it at the code.
Common questions
Does it work with iPhone and Android?
Yes. Most Android phones support NFC (you may need to switch it on in settings). Most iPhones from the last several years read NFC tags automatically, and older models can use the QR code instead.
What if their phone has no NFC?
Every card also carries a QR code, so they can point the camera at it and open the same link.
Does metal block NFC?
Metal can interfere with NFC if a card is not built for it. We recommend tapping your card on a phone before you hand them out, and every metal card also carries a QR code as a backup.
